Lot Essay

Signed on the mooring post, the drawing belongs to a group of ship portraits by Storck, such as one of the British ship 'Royal Charles', captured by the Dutch in 1667 at Chatham, and dated 1672 by the artist (Rijksmuseum, inv. RP-T-00-256); three others are at the Herzog Anton Ulrich-Museum, Braunschweig (inv. Z 7578-Z 2580).
