Lot Essay

Trained at the Accademia Clementina as a painter and set designer, Fancelli decorated the most important palaces of Bologna. His typical combination of a fine parallel hatching and gray wash is seen in the study for Saint John the Baptist in the Minneapolis Institute of Art (inv. 2012.58.58).
