Callow made numerous visits to Venice over a 52 year period between 1846 and 1906. His ability to capture the crisp light of Venice and his palette which was ideally suited to the subtle colours of Venice, found great favour with the British public.

The sheet is fully laid down onto non-acidic mount. There are some small tears and abrasions to the extreme edges (overmounted) and an old repaired tear to the left lower edge. The colours are fresh and strong and the sheet reads well.
