WILLIAM WYLD, R.I. (LONDON 1806-1889 PARIS)
Sunrise over St Mark's Square, Venice, with the Lion of St Mark to the right
Wyld lived in Paris for most of his life, travelling extensively throughout Europe, often accompanied by Horace Vernet (1789-1863). It was with Vernet, Director of the French Academy in Rome, that Wyld visited Italy in 1834. The present watercolour was probably worked up from a sketch made during this trip.

Condition report
A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The sheet is fully laid down onto a non-acidic mount. There are a few very small scattered foxmarks, but the sheet is in very good condition overall, the colours are strong, and it could be hung without further attention.
