Lot Essay

This spontaneous sketch of a woman is rapidly drawn on silk jacquard, perhaps extemporaneously created on a napkin or tablecloth. Another drawing on a similar support is the Portrait of a sleeping man, tentatively identified as a portrait of the composer Giacomo Puccini, in a private collection in Rome (Un angolo di Art Nouveau a Roma, exhib. cat., Rome, Spazio espostivio Tritone, no. 10, ill.).
