Lot Essay
A copy after a drawing by Giulio Romano in the Louvre, Paris (inv. 3499; see exhib. cat., Paris, Louvre, Autour de Raphael. Dessins et peintures du Musée du Louvre, 1984, no. 75, ill.). That drawing is described by Vasari as a study for a fresco in the Palazzo Te, Mantua, but no such fresco can now be found in the Palazzo Te (see ibid., p. 68).

Condition report
A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Executed on laid paper and not laid down. The paper is in generally good condition. The sheet is fixed to an old window mount along the edges. There is avertical drying fold running from the upper edge to the lower edge. There are two strips of paper added at the corners (probably due to losses) and there is a small backed loss in the lower left. There are a few scattered stains. The wash has occasionally been rubbed, but they remain otherwise strong. Framed.
