Lot Essay

A copy after a drawing by Giulio Romano in the Louvre, Paris (inv. 3499; see exhib. cat., Paris, Louvre, Autour de Raphael. Dessins et peintures du Musée du Louvre, 1984, no. 75, ill.). That drawing is described by Vasari as a study for a fresco in the Palazzo Te, Mantua, but no such fresco can now be found in the Palazzo Te (see ibid., p. 68).
