The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

Ruined town
The canvas has been relined and retains a good tension on its stretcher. There is an area of lifting in the paint surface to the track, lower centre, and to trees, upper left, with two small associated losses. These areas should be stabilised to avoid further future losses. Otherwise the picture presents well overall. 
Examination under ultraviolet light reveals some strengthening to the darker tones along the edges and a small area of retouching to the sky, upper centre. Otherwise the picture appears to be in reasonably good original condition.

River landscape 
The canvas has been relined and retains a good tension on its stretcher. There is a small loss to the paint surface in the foliage, centre right. As with its pendant, the artist's technique and the wealth of narrative detail remains appreciable throughout and it presents well overall.
Examination under ultraviolet light reveals some strengthening nearer the edges of the composition with some retouching in the sky from an earlier campaign.
