The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This large painting is executed on a panel with a horizontal grain, and has been supported on the reverse by a cradle. The paint layer is stable and exhibits a fine craquelure. The varnish is clear and nicely saturates the colors. In natural light a confident and fluid underdrawings is visible around the dove, the horns of the bull, and in the face and beards of the figures. Small loses along the craquelure and wood grain at upper center over the dove have been restored, these restorations are visible in natural light. Additional restorations scattered in the flesh tones are also visible in natural light. Restorations to the red garment of the seated figure have discolored slightly with age and are visible in raking light. Along what appears to be a panel join at the far right above the blessing hand additional retouches are visible. The aforementioned restorations are visible under ultraviolet light. Inspection with a UV lamp reveals further scattered restorations in the garments, pages of the open book, and in the background. Further inspection is hindered by an uneven opaque varnish. This painting is offered in a simple carved wood frame.
