The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

The canvas has been subject to relining; it is held under tension and remains stable. The painting presents well in natural light. There is some minor retouching to the paler tones in the sky. There is an old varnish that carries some dirt, especially noticable in the upper right-hand corner, this would benefit from cleaning. There is a fine pattern of craquelure across the surface, this does not detract from the delicacy of the detailing. The paint layer is stable. Examination under UV light confirms the aforementioned scattered retouching in the sky. There is some minor scattered retouching to the darker passages in the trees. Further detailed examination is precluded by a cloudy historic varnish. The modelling of the composition, the details and the highlights remain fully appreciable.
