The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

This painting is executed on a panel comprized of two horizontally oriented boards, or relatively equal size, with a horizontal grain. The panel is supported on the reverse by a cradle. The paint layer is generally stable, with some active flaking along the panel join at center, as seen in the catalogue image. There is an uneven craquleure over the surface, with some associated inpainting. In natural light some discolored restorations in the fleshtones and along the wood grain are visible. Further restorations to the sitter's clothing and backgrounds are visible in raking light. The aforemented restoration were confirmed via inspection under ultraviolet light, which revealed broad campaigns of restoration to the area around the panel join, the background at left, and to the sitter with the mandolin at right. The painting presents well and can be hung in its present state, one could consolidate the caracking along the panel join if desired. The work is offered in a simple wooden frame.
