The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The painting is executed on a single sheet of copper, which has become slightly uneven with age. There is some oxidation of the copper visible on the reverse of the sheet. There is evidence of copper disease, but its effects on the picture are minor. The paint layer is stable under a clear varnish. There is frame abrasion and some associated losses along the extreme edges, however this is hidden by the rabbet of the frame. Under raking light restorations to some thinned areas of paint are visible, specifically in the the dark armor of the soldier behind Christ, the architecture in the background, and to the dark colored path in the foreground. Inspection under ultraviolet light revealed further tiny retouches to small losses scattered throughout and a few strokes of strengthening to the contour's of Christs robes and a few of the other figures. The painting presents well and can be displayed in its present condition. The work is offered in a carved and giltwood frame.
