The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The canvas has been subject to relining; it is held under tension and remains stable. Examination in natural light shows some slight frme abrasions to the lower right-hand edge and lower edge of the canvas. There has been some slight discolouring to historic retoucing of the craquelure across the surface, most noticable in the flesh tones. There is some scattered surface dirt. The paint surface remains stable. Examination under UV light is partially prohibited by a cloudy varnish, that has been cleaned in patches. The aforementioned scattered retouching to the craquelure is confirmed. There is a line of restoration running from the saint's shoulder into her raised hand and an associated area of restoration to the left of the hand in the swathe of white cloth. There appears to be some further minor scatterd retouching. The modelling of the composition and the integrity of the artist’s painterly technique remain fully appreciable.
