The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This painting is executed on canvas and is supported on the reverse by a glue lining. The painting is stable, yet somewhat stiff on its stretcher. The paint layer is stable, although slightly dirty, under a clear varnish. There is a network of fine craquelure across the surface. Some of the highpoints of the impasto have been maintained. There is some frame abrasion at the extreme edges, which is hidden by the rabbet of the frame. in raking light a few tiny losses and repairs along the craquelure are visible. Inspection under ultraviolet light was hindered by an opaque varnish. The painting presents well and can be displayed in its present state. It could be cleaned and re-varnished to fully saturate the colors to taste. The painting is offered in a painted and giltwood frame.
