The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The panel is made up of one board bevelled to the lower edge and the lower half of the vertical edges. A knot in the wood at upper centre has caused a small split in the panel of approximately 2 cm. visible to the front and back. This has caused a minor loss to the upper edge, which has been repared with flller. The panel is stable. Examination in natural light shows some slight thinning to the paint glazes, especially in the darker passages of the background. There has been some retouching to these darker passages. There has been some retouching to the skin tones and whites, most noticeably where the grain of the panel has begun to show. There is some surface dirt to the varnish. Examination under UV light confirms the aforementioned retouching. The varnish precludes further commentary. The paint layers are stable and the composition of the piece fully appreciable.
