The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

The canvas has been subject to relining, it is help under tension and remains stable. Examination in natural light shows some scattered retouchings, notably to the lower third of the canvas and along the right-hand edge. There has been some slight thinning to the upper paint layers as a result of the relining process. Examination under UV light confirms the aforementioned retouching. There is further retouching in the flesh tones of the saint and in the background to the centre left. The paint remains stable.
