The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

The canvas has been subject to relining; it is held under tension and remains stable. Examination in natural light shows some scattered retouchings, notably to the lower third of the canvas. There has been some slight thinning to the upper paint layers as a result of the relining process. Examination under UV light confirms the aforementioned retouching. There is some further retouching to the centre right in the figure’s drapery and the background. The paint remains stable. There is a slightly cloudy varnish that precludes a more in depth examination.
