The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

The painterly approach to modeling remains fully appreciable. The canvas has been subject to relining, it is held under tension and remains stable. The paint is structurally stable. The relining process has made the canvas weave more apparent. In a raking light some stabilisation of the paint with associated retouching can be seen in the lower right-hand corner. Examination under UV light confirms the aforementioned retouching. It reveals further scattered retouching, further retouching to the left-edge of the canvas, with some strengthening to the outline of the figure, notably to the proper right arm and proper left leg. There is a cloudy varnish that precludes further examination.
