The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

The painting is executed on a single panel of vertical grain. The paint layer is stable and under a clear and even varnish. Minor scattered pigment losses are visible along the edges. Under natural light, a small area of restoration to the upper right corner is visible, as is some restoration to the sitter's hat and to the shaded part of his forehead. Inspection under ultraviolet light confirms the aforementioned restoration. The painting can be hung in its present state. The painting is offered in a simple wood frame.
