The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This relined canvas is held under tension and remains stable. There is a fine uneven pattern of craquelure, with evidence of natural ageing in the increased transparency of the thinnest tints, however the luminosity of the colours remains very well preserved. Ultraviolet examination reveals a thick layer of varnish, through which can be seen some scattered restoration in the sky, particularly around the trees, as well as more isolated restoration in the shadows of the cottage. The painting remains in a very good state of preservation.
