A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This two-piece panel remains stable and even. In raking light, restoration to the background and some historic and stabilised lifting is visible in isolated parts of the sky, particularly in the centre left above the panel join. There is a stabilised horizontal crack of approximately 5 cm in the upper right corner, with restoration and minor paint losses visible along the edges of the panel, associated with frame wear, along with restoration along the horizontal central panel join. Ultraviolet examination confirms the above, revealing extensive scattered restoration in the sky and in the darker passages of the water and the trees. The artist’s fluid technique remains appreciable, particularly in the still life element in the lower left corner.
