The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This pair of still lives are executed on canvas each supported on the reverse by a glue lining. Both works are firmly secured to their stretcher. The paint layers are stable under a clear varnish. Both works exhibit a fine craquelure across the surface. On the first a small hole is visible in natural light to the left of the signed sheet of paper, but has been delicately restored. Above the violin on the second a small tear has been repaired, measuring approximately 2 inches. Inspection under ultraviolet light revealed further restorations on both works scattered in the dark shadows and in the table cloths. Further inspection under ultraviolet light is hindered by an opaque varnish. The pair is offered in matching gilt wood frames.
