This relined canvas is held under tension and remains stable. The paint layer appears to be in a very good state of preservation, with some historic thinning of the darker passages, such as in the browns and blacks. Ultraviolet examination reveals some retouching to the sky in the upper left, to the distant hills, the centre left and to the highlights of the bird in flight in the upper left. The thick layer of varnish precludes further examination, however the artist’s painterly brushwork remains highly appreciable.
