拍品专文

This assembled group of stained glass roundels all come from a similar artistic origin but probably represent at least three distinct hands. Three of the panels - those including Susanna, Daniel and the merchant scene - appear to be by the same painter and have the same provenance; they were included in an exhibition of stained glass held in 1923 where they were listed as being in private American ownership. It is likely that Koenigs became aware of them at the time of this exhibition and managed to acquire them. The other two roundels each seem to be by different artists. The composition of the roundel depicting Atropos - the Fate whose scissors could cut the thread of life - is known in at least three other variant examples including one sold at Christie's, Amsterdam, 26 Mar. 2013, lot 63.
