This painting is supported on the reverse by a glue lining and is quite firmly adhered to its keyed stretcher. The paint layer is stable under a clear varnish. There is a wide craquelure across the surface. Frame abrasions along the extreme edges have been repaired, and are mostly hidden by the rabbet of the frame Old restorations along the craquelure have discolored slightly with age and are visible in natural light. Some areas, in the sitter's hair and the fur trim of her shawl, have been abraded. Inspection under ultraviolet light was hindered by an uneven and opaque varnish. The painting is offered in a painted Dutch style frame.
