The canvas is supported on the reverse with a glue lining. The paint layer is stable under a clear varnish that has slightly yellowed with age. There is an overall network of fine lines of craquelure. There is a disturbance to the dark background at upper left. Inspection under ultraviolet light confirms a few scattered small areas of retouching, including to the extreme edges to address frame abrasion. An opaque varnish impedes further inspection. The painting presents well and can be hung in its present state. The work is offered in a simple giltwood frame.
