拍品專文

This work is after a half-length portrait attributed to Paulus Moreelse, previously in the Castle of Amelroy, or Ammerzode (see J. Box, Chronicles of the Castle of Amelroy, or Ammerzode with some notices of its ancient barons, London, 1870, p. 25). The sitter, a loyal officer of Prince Maurice of Nassau, distinguished himself in 1591 during the Siege of Deventer, and in 1622 succeeded in resisting the Spanish troops under the command of General Ambrogio Spinola, besieging Bergen-op-Zoom, of which he was appointed military governor in 1618 by Maurice of Nassau.
