The painting has been executed on a panel support. The panel is made up of one board, with evidence of bevelling to the right-hand and lower edges. There is a a very slight bowing of the panel noticeable at the upper edge. The panel remains stable. The painting presents well in natural light, with the illustrative quality of the figures and the bold colouring well preserved. There appears to have been some retouching to the sky at upper right. In raking light some very minor areas of retouching can be seen along the panel grain. Examination under UV light confirms the aforementioned retouchings. There has been some further strengthening to the outline of the fingures, and some retouching to the cloak of the figure at far left and between the two central figures. There is the remains of an old varnish. The paint remains stable.
