The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

The panel is made up of two oak boards joined horizonatally. These are held stable by four butterfly supports. There is evidence of three historic supports to the join that have been removed. The panel is stable. Examination in natural light shows some restoration along the panel join. There has been some thinning to the red-brown tones with associated retouching. There is a fine pattern of craquelure noticeable in the darker passages. The paint is stable. Examination under UV light confirms the aforementioned retouching. There is further retouching to the dark passages and the sky. The illustrative quality of the composition remains appreciable.
