The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This two-piece oak panel is stabilized with joins vertically across the center on the reverse. The panel is even. The artist's painterly technique is highly appreciable, with impasto still visible in raking light. There is slight historic abrasion in the darker passages, such as the darkest elements of the black coat, likely due to the artist's use of thinner glazes across the ground layer. Ultraviolet examination reveals a streaky varnish that prevents further examination, with more recent possible restoration to the inscription. The painting remains in a good state of preservation.
