Condition report
A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The canvas has been relined and is providing a stable support for the picture. There is a pattern of craquelure to the paint surface and an uneven varnish that is blanching a little in places. The surface is a little flat and abraded in part, notably to the costume. There are some minor tiny losses, notably upper left and in the lower centre (as visible in the illustration) with some scuffs along the edges consistent with frame wear. The examination under UV reveals some scattered retouching, notably to the darker areas such as the outline of the hat and costume. A more thorough examination is impeded by the varnish. Overall however the picture presents reasonably well.
