The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

The panel is made up of two boards joined vertically. The panel has been cradeled and remains stable. There has been some restoration along the vertical panel join that is visible in natural light. In a raking light it is clear that the impasto is well preserved. There is an old yellowed varnish that carries some dirt. A light cleaning would prove rewarding in restoring the colours and improving the clarity of the painting, overall. Examination under UV light confrims the aforementioned restoration along the panel join. There is some further minor scattered retouching to the horizontal panel grain. Close examination confirms the paint layer to be in a very good state of preservation, particularly with regard to the texture of the painterly brushwork and the very subtle gradations in colour and tone across the sky.
