The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

This relined canvas is held under tension and remains stable. The artist’s masterful use of the ground layer is appreciable in raking light, particularly in the brushstrokes of the darker tones of the clouds and sky. A spot of restored isolated damage is visible in the lower centre. Ultraviolet examination reveals some streaks of restoration in the darker tones of the sky, as well as in some of the low lights in the water, around the bridge and in the shadows of the windows of the architecture.
