The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This painting is supported on the reverse by a glue lining, and is firmly adhered to a keyed stretcher. There is a pronounced craquelure across the surface, with additional cracking along the stretcher edges. The paint layer is stable under a high gloss varnish and white impasto highlights in the glass vessels have been nicely maintained. There is some abrasion along the edge of the silver plate and in natural light, pinpoint losses along the craquelure are visible. Restorations to the extreme edges address frame abrasions but are mostly hidden by the rabbet of the frame. Inspection under ultraviolet light was hindered by an opaque varnish.
