There is a fine craquelure that follows the weft and weave of the canvas. In natural light abrasion to the sitter's hair and surrounding background revealing the reddish preparatory layer below and old discolored restorations to the flesh tones are visible. Frame abrasions and associated repairs are visible at the extreme edges, these are usually hidden by the rabbet of the frame.
