The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The panel is stable and providing good support for the picture. There are some scuffs and scratches around the edges, and a vertical, historical split/crack from the top edge, running through his proper right eye. The drawing of the Saint’s head is well preserved; there are spots of discoloured restoration visible to the gold and to the cross in natural light.
The examination under UV confirms this aforementioned restoration and reveals further scattered retouching to his costume. It confirms that the head, hair and beard are in a very good state of preservation.
