The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This panel is comprised of three horizontally oriented boards with horizontal wood grain. The boards measure 8 1/4, 10 3/4 and 4 3/4 inches in height from top to bottom. The joins have separated slightly over time. Overall the panel is in stable condition. The paint layer is clean under a clear varnish, which saturates the colors nicely. There are some pin point losses along the panel joins and associated restorations. Further restorations to the sky and to small losses in the peacock's tail at right are visible in natural light. Inspection under ultraviolet light confirmed the aforementioned restorations and reveals additional feathered strokes of retouching to the background at right. A complete inspection under ultraviolet light is hindered by an uneven opaque varnish. The painting presents well and should be hung in its present state. Pinpoint losses along the joins could be repaired to taste. The painting is offered in a dark wood Dutch style frame.
