The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This three-piece panel has been stabilised and held under tension by two large horizontal batons along the joins across the reverse, as well as a baton in the upper right of the reverse stabilising and old crack. In raking light, the horizontal crack in the upper left measuring approximately 24 cm, and another above it measuring approximately 13 cm, are stable. Restored paint losses are also visible along the two panel joints. There is some overpaint particularly in the upper centre of the sky as well as in some of the highlights and costumes. Overall, the painting remains in a very good state of preservation, with the artist’s draughtsmanship remaining highly appreciable, particularly in the modelling of the figures and the background.
