This painting is supported on the reverse by a glue lining. The paint layer is stable under a clear varnish. There is a fine craquelure across the surface. Frame abrasions are visible at the extreme edges. A small tear, measuring approximately 1 in., is visible on the left side of the sarcophagus base. There is some abrasion in the background and to the kneeling figure. Inspection under ultraviolet light revealed a campaign of small strokes of inpainting to minimize and define the abraded areas. Further inspection under ultraviolet light was hindered by an uneven and opaque varnish. The painting presents well and is offered in an ornately carved and giltwood frame.
