The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This relined canvas retains a good tension on its stretcher. Examination under raking light reveals the painting has an even and stable craquelure. There is seemingly some minor infill to the more pronounced areas of the craquelure. Some minor tenting to the far right border of the canvas. Inspection under ultra violet fluorescence reveals the painting to be in good order; there is a small passage of restoration in the dark tones of the lower left corner, a small repair to the left thigh of the fifth major figure from left in the procession, and a few other very minor retouchings but generally the paint layer is in a good state of preservation.
