Only a handful of still lifes by Jacob van Es on copper are known, including one in the National Gallery Prague. A similar still life on a comparably sized sheet of copper was sold Lempertz, Cologne, 14 May 1994, lot 36, while a third is in a Czech private collection.

This painting is executed on a thin sheet of copper, which has been fully laid down to a wooden panel. Thin wooden strips have been added along the edges to fit the frame. The paint surface is stable, with minor losses which have yet to be repaired scattered throughout. There is some pitting in the surface of the copper sheet, as seen in the catalogue image. A repair over the wine glass fluoresces under ultraviolet light. The painting presents well and is offered in a Dutch style black and gilt frame.
