Lot Essay

Only a handful of still lifes by Jacob van Es on copper are known, including one in the National Gallery Prague. A similar still life on a comparably sized sheet of copper was sold Lempertz, Cologne, 14 May 1994, lot 36, while a third is in a Czech private collection.
