Winter:
The painting is supported by a wax lining and is stable on its support. The paint layer is stable and slightly dirty under a clear varnish. There is a wide craquelure across the surface that has been in painted in some areas. There are a few scattered areas of retouching, visible in raking light, mostly in the garland and the background. Inspection under ultraviolet light revealed a campaign of restoration addressing the craquelure and reinforcing the fine details throughout the composition. The painting presents well in its current condition and is offered in a painted and gilt frame.
Spring:
The canvas is supported by a wax lining and is stable on its support. The paint layer is stable under a clear varnish. Two horizontal bands of cracking at center correspond to the stretcher on the reverse and have been retouched. Restorations to the background and scattered areas of the floral garland are visible in raking light. Restorations to two small loses in the stone work frame are visible at upper left just above the bow and at left in the darkest area of shadow. In ultraviolet light a campaign of small fathers strokes address damages to the couple at center. Further scattered strokes of retouching fluoresced throughout. The painting present well overall and can be displayed in its current state. The work is offered in a painted and gilt wood frame.
Summer:
This painting is supported on the reverse by a wax lining and is somewhat uneven, although stable, on its stretcher. There is a craquelure across the surface and some further cracking at center which corresponds to the horizontal stretcher bar of the support. The paint layer is stable under a clear varnish. Restorations throughout the painting address the cracking and losses in the dark background. A large area of the lower right corner, including the apple and pair of the garland, are repainted and fluoresce under ultra violet light. Further scattered strokes of retouching fluoresced throughout. The painting present well and can be hung in its present state. The painted is offered in a painted and gilt wood frame.
Fall:
The canvas is supported by a wax lining and is stable on its support. The paint layer is slightly dirty under a clear varnish. There is a craquelure across the surface. Further cracking at center corresponds to the stretcher bar. Retouches to the craquelure and to a few small losses are scattered throughout. These retouches fluoresce in ultraviolet light. UV light also revealed feathered strokes of retouching to the sky and background elements of the central scene. The painting present well and can be hung in its present state. The painted is offered in a painted and gilt wood frame.
