The oak panel is made up of three boards joined horizontally. The upper panel join is supported by two butterfly joints and three rectangular joints. The lower join is supported by two butterfly joints. The panel is stable. The painting presents well in natural light. The fluidity of paint application and the thick impasto of the detailing in the sitter's costume are well preserved. In natural light the two panel joins are visible. Examination in UV light is impared by a thick, cloudy varnish. Some very minor scattered retouching i apparent, notably strengtheing the outline of the dog. The paint is stable.
