The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The painting is executed on panel. The panel is comprised of a single board with a vertical grain, there is evidence of hand beveling along all four edges of the reverse. The panel is slightly uneven along the upper edge, but does not appear to be cut. Two wooden strips have been added at the left and right edge to fit the frame. The paint layer is stable with a very fine craquelure across the surface. The varnish is clear, although it has yellowed slightly with age. Frame abrasion is visible at the extreme edges with associated losses, these are mostly hidden by the rabbet of the frame. In natural light, pinpoint losses and repairs are visible along the vertical wood grain. Further repairs to the darkest areas of shadow are also visible in natural light. Inspection under ultraviolet light is hindered by an opaque varnish. The painting presents well and is offered in a carved and gilt wood frame.
