The canvas has been subject to a wax reline, it is held under tension and remains stable. Examination in a raking light shows that the upper paint layers have slightly thinned, likely as a reslut of the relining process.. There appears to be some scattered retouching in the background, including the sky, and architectural elements of the composition. Examination under UV light confirms these retouchings. It reveals a reapair to the canvas of approximately 15 x 3 cm. to the centre of the sky, there is a further smaller repair of approximately 7 x 2 cm. to the centre of the canvas at the point where the sky and the hedge meet. There are two repaired vertical tears extending from the centre of the upper edge of approximately 22 and 15 cm. There is further scattered retouching overall. The paint is stable. The fluidity of the modeling of the figures and the balance of the composition remain fully appreciable.
