The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The canvas has been relined, and is providing stable support for the picture, though the tension is quite loose. There is a prominent pattern of craquelure to the paint surface, and the stretcher bar marks are visible along the edges. There is some unevenness in the surface, with a vertical crease in the upper right corner, with some associated retouching, possibly relating to an historic damage. The varnish is fresh and the colouring and impasto very well preserved in her dress. The examination under UV confirms the aforementioned restoration and reveals minor scattered retouching. Overall the picture presents extremely well.
