The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

The canvas has been relined and retains a good tension on its stretcher. The picture presents well overall with the rich palette and wealth of narrative detail remains appreciable. The paint surface is a little dry and some discoloured retouching is visible in the background.
Examination under ultra violet light is largely obscured by the old varnish layer. However, it does confirm the aforementioned retouching while revealing an area of strengthening to the cloth on the table, with more minor spots of retouching elsewhere.
