This relined canvas is held under adequate tension on its stretcher and remains stable. In raking light, extensive restoration is visible in the background and the boy's flesh tones, particularly in the chest. Ultraviolet examination reveals multiple campaigns of historic restoration throughout, including to a more recent isolated damage in the lower left, as well as retouching both to the figure's face as well as selective cleaning of the varnish layer. Further restoration is visible along the edges of the canvas, associated with frame wear, and elsewhere.
