The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This relined canvas is held under adequate tension and remains stable. There is evidence of historic lifting of the paint layer across the surface, now stabilised, which has left small, scattered loses, some of which have been in-filled. There is further restoration throughout, particularly visible in the girl’s left arm (proper). Ultraviolet examination reveals a thick obscuring layer of varnish, with further restoration visible in the lower left curtain. The artist’s drawing details remains appreciable, with much of the original brushwork particularly in the girl’s face preserved.
