The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

This relined canvas is held somewhat loosely on its stretcher, however remains stable. The paint layer has experienced thinning over time, resulting in sensitive areas of retouching across the surface, and overpaint in the prominent blue sky seen through the open door. Ultraviolet examination confirms the above and reveals small scattered areas of restoration throughout, particularly in the darkest passages of the background and in elements of the figures' skin tones.
