The paint layer has experienced thinning over time, resulting in sensitive areas of retouching across the surface, and overpaint in the prominent blue sky seen through the open door. Ultraviolet examination confirms the above and reveals small scattered areas of restoration throughout, particularly in the darkest passages of the background and in elements of the figures' skin tones.
